    Phonics Sounds

    Objectives:

    1) Master the sounds of the 26 letters;

    2) Can recognize the letters when hearing the sounds, or can say the sounds when seeing the letters; 

    3) Learn to differentiate the initial sounds of the words;

    4) Start to learn to read some words with the letter sounds as the initial sounds;

    5) Can write the letters on sand-paper with fingers.

    Age:

    Suitable for 0-9 years old, best for 3-6 years old.

    Usage Frequency:

    1) Reading book and listening to CD:

    • Children read the book and listen to the CD together with parents. Parents can point to the letters when listening to the CD to help the children connect the sounds with the writings.
    • At least once daily, spend 20 minutes or more;
    • Rotate to listen to 1 to 2 lessons every time. Please don't play all lessons at a time before the children finish all 7 lessons. 

    2) Listen to CD and look at the letter cards:

    • Parents print out the 26 letter cards, stick them on the wall;
    • When the children listen to the CD, parents can point to the letter cards to help children connect the sounds with the writings;
    • At least 3 times daily, 20 minutes or more every time;
    • Rotate to listen to 1 to 2 lessons every time. Please don't play all lessons at a time before the children finish all 7 lessons. 

    3) Watch DVD and "write" on letter cards:

    • Parents print out the 26 letter cards, laminate them if needed;
    • Parents play DVD for children;
    • Children can "write" on letter cards with their fingers, following the actions shown on DVD;
    • Once daily, play 1 to 2 lessons every day, rotate 1 to 2 times.

    Measurments:

    After each lesson, parents can do one of the following exercises to find out how well the children learn:

    1) Play initial sounds game to find out if children can analyze initial sounds;

    2) Use the "Can You Show Me" game to see if children can recognize the letters writing when hearing the sounds;

    3) Use the "Which Sound is this" game to see if children can say the sounds when seeing the letters;

    4) Parents point to any letters and ask the children to say their sounds.

  • MAC Easy Spellings

    Objectives:

    1) Review and master the 26 letter sounds;

    2) Practise and master the spellings of 3-letter words;

    3) Practise and master the spellings of consonant blends.

    Age:

    Suitable for 0-9 years old, best for 3-6 years old.

    Usage Frequency:

    1) Review and master letter sounds:

    • Play DVD-rom, choose "Letters". Children can work together with parents on the 3-Period Lesson game.
    • At least once daily, spend 10 minutes or more. 

    2) Practise and master the spellings of 3-letter words:

    • Play DVD-rom, choose "3-letter phonetics". Children can work with parents on the game;
    • At least 3 times daily, each with 15 minutes;
    • Practise one vowel at a time. Children can work on more than one vowel when they are proficient on each. 

    3) Practise and master the spellings of consonant blends:

    • Play DVD-rom, choose "Blends". Children can work with parents on the game;
    • At least 3 times daily, each with 15 minutes;
    • Practise one blend at a time. Children can work on more than one blend when they are proficient on each. 

    Measurement:

    The game will tell if the children get it right or not. Parents can record down how well the children are doing each time.

  • Phonics Stories Series 1

    Objectives:

    1) Master and differentiate the 5 vowel sounds;

    2) Practise to blend the letter sounds to pronounce the 3-letter words.

    Age:

    Suitable for 0-9 years old, best for 3-6 years old.

    Usage Frequency:

    1) Master and differetiate the 5 vowel sounds:

    • Play CD. Children can read the books along with CD with parents.
    • At least 3 times daily, 2-3 lessons each time; following this pattern to finish the 5 lessons;
    • If the children are interested, play more times. 

    2) Practise to say the 3-letter words:

    • Play DVD, especially focusing on the part of Words. This will help the children understand the concept of blending sounds to form the words;
    • 1-2 times daily, one or more lessons each time. 

    Measurements:

    When finishing Book 1, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 8;

    2) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 1-8; 

    When finishing Book 2, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 11-12;

    2) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 9-12;

    When finishing Book 3, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 21;

    2) Ask the children to read aloud the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 1, Page 19-24;

    When finishing Book 4, do the following exercises:

    Objectives:

    1) Understand the pronunciaiton rules for the words with silent e;

    2) Practise the pronunciations of the words with silent e;

    3) Practise the pronunciations of long vowels.

    Age:

    Suitable for 0-9 years old, best for 3-6 years old.

    Usage Frequency:

    1) Understand the pronunciaiton rules for the words with silent e:

    •  Play DVD for Book 6-8, especially the part of Words. Help children understand that when there are silent e at the end of the words, they should pronounce the letter names instead of the letter sounds;
    • 1-2 times daily, one to three books at a time.

    2)  Practise the pronunciations of the words with silent e:

    • Play CD for Book 6-8. Children can read the books together with parents;
    • 3 times daily, 1-2 books each time. Follow this pattern to finish the 3 books;
    • If the children are interested, repeat the above steps.

    3) Practise the pronunciations of long vowels:

    • Play DVD for Book 9-10, especially the part of Words. Help children understand the pronunciation rules of long vowels;
    • 1-2 times daily, 1-2 books each time;
    • Play CD for Book 9-10. Children can read books with parents;
    • 3 times daily, 1-2 books each time. Follow this pattern to finish the 2 books.
    • If the children are interested, repeat the above steps.

    Measurements:

    When finishing Book 6, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask children to pronounce the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 3, page 1-6;

    When finishing Book 7, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask children to pronounce the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 3, page 13-18;

    When finishing Book 8, do the following exercises:

    1) Ask children to pronounce the words on MAC EASY SPELLINGS BOOK 3, page 23-25;
